The two best upgrades in this follow-up to X-wing are "speed match" (Enter) and time dilation (Alt+T). These are immensely useful QOL additions! Difficulty also has better balance with a steady increase along the missions to help learn the basics. Avoid the CD-ROM version on MiSTer! Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com Unfortunately they had some missteps in the DOS CD-ROM release, much like with X-Wing. This time it's much worse though, making the game mostly unplayable in the current 486 core. For some reason they programmed the CD version to read every single joystick axis available and apply it to the mouse cursor control in menus and concourse navigation. This makes it near-impossible to use unless you only have a joystick with a single X/Y axis, as the throttle and twist function on sticks will make the mouse move on its own continuously and even if you use a mouse will be constantly battling against this. There is a possibility of this being remedied by the core getting additional joystick options that don't force two joysticks when enabled/available. DOSBox has similar issues and requires the ini setting "timed=false" for joysticks to alleviate it, but there is no equivalent option on MiSTer currently. For this reason, if you want to play the game I suggest sticking with the original disk release for now. XWJoy v2 for Joystick Throttle Support: https://github.com/pagej97/xwjoy-redux This enables full granularity across the entire range of the throttle. It saves the calibration to a file, so you don't need to do that each time you run it unless you switch joysticks. Just run it before loading the game & you can easily make a batch file to run this and the game together.
