Victor, Colorado, known as the “City of Mines,” rose to prominence in the 1890s after gold was discovered on Battle Mountain. The strike transformed the region into one of the richest gold-mining districts in the world. While the boom years have long passed, traces of the town’s mining heritage remain in its historic head frames, old brick buildings, and the still-active Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mine—the largest operating gold mine in Colorado. In today’s video, we explore a few of Victor's gems including Grassy Valley Overlook 💎, an overlook built from a repurposed mining truck bucket that provides a spectacular view of a massive open-pit mine. We walk around town to several historic landmarks 💎, including the former Midland Terminal Railway Depot, the ruins of the Gold Coin Mine, and the Gold Coin Club. We tour the fantastic Victor Lowell Thomas Museum 💎, a museum that celebrates both local mining history and the life of Lowell Thomas, the world-famous journalist who grew up in Victor. Victor is a wonderful place to spend a day. It’s remote and quiet and the sounds of nature don’t have to compete with environmental noise. It is a tiny town that holds a big piece of Colorado’s history. Check it out! 👍 If you like this content, please give it a thumbs up.
