22 & MISSING: The Search for Savannah Hale Hits a Roadblock

The search for answers in the case of Savannah Hale continues. On May 4, 2022, Savannah went missing, leaving behind a series of final communications. Her last known whereabouts were traced to a Chevron station and a grocery store, with a final cell phone ping placing her in the area. The last messages she sent indicated she was going through a difficult time—a text to her sister saying, "I'm really sorry, I love you, I can't do this anymore," and a video sent to her boyfriend. Since that day, her family has been left with unanswered questions and the hope that someone can bring their daughter home. 🔎 A New Lead in a Cold Case 🔎 Inspired by a breakthrough in a similar case in Florida, where a missing person was found in a newly developed subdivision, our team decided to revisit Savannah's case with a new perspective. We began to scrutinize maps and satellite imagery, looking for any changes in the landscape since her disappearance. That’s when we discovered it: a new body of water, located near her boyfriend's grandparents' house, that was previously inaccessible. Satellite data confirmed a new subdivision had been built between May 2022 and February 2024, creating roads that led directly to this pond. A new theory emerged that she may have driven into this area. This possibility became the new focus of our sixth day of searching. 🚧 Obstacles and Challenges 🚧 Our plan, however, was quickly met with challenges as this promising new location was on private property. Gaining access involved administrative hurdles with their media department, security personnel, and jurisdictional questions between law enforcement agencies. These delays were a reminder that even with the best intentions and equipment, property access is a critical part of any search. 🕵️‍♂️ The Search on the Ground and in the Water 🕵️‍♂️ Despite the setback with the private pond, our team was determined to make progress. We deployed our drone to survey the pond from a distance, hoping the water would be clear enough to spot a vehicle from the air. Unfortunately, the water was dark and murky, revealing nothing from that vantage point. We then turned our attention to other potential areas. We meticulously walked roadside embankments near local businesses, searching for any sign—broken branches, tire tracks, a disturbed fence—that a car might have gone over. Finding none, we moved to an old oil rig pad, another potential access point to the water, only to be met by a locked gate. Our final effort of the day was to launch our boat onto the Red River. With our advanced sonar equipment, we scanned the depths, dealing with a constantly shifting riverbed of sand that could easily cover a car. The conditions were difficult, and after a thorough scan of the area, no vehicle was located. Still Searching, Still Hopeful After more than eight search days, Savannah Hale is still missing. There is frustration, especially knowing that one of the most promising leads—the private pond—remains unsearched. But our resolve is unwavering. We will continue to explore every possible avenue, to clear every body of water, and to work with authorities to gain access to the locations that need to be cleared.
