How best to describe Ironbridge, not really a town but too large an area to be a village. Is it simply a museum? Along its three-mile length there are no less than ten museums, all part of The Ironbridge Gorge Museums. No wonder that this area is now very much for tourism with most visitors going to see the world-famous Iron Bridge. Two hundred years ago, the Industrial Revolution began along the Ironbridge Gorge. Ten thousand years ago at the end of the last Ice Age, the River Severn first ran down through Shropshire and along its course we know today. Before this the course of the Severn continued to run from its source across Wales and into the River Dee.
