Sound: Tom Soetaert. www.jennavergeynst.com The story of Ariadne is set in Creta. In a gigantic labyrinth lives a Minotaur: half bull, half man. Ariadne's father, King Minos, yearly sacrifices 12 young men and women from Athens to feed the bull. To counter this practice, Theseus, the son of King Aegeas of Athens, volunteers to be part of this living meal, determined to kill the Minotaur. Ariadne falls in love with Theseus and offers him a golden wire and a sword. She teaches him a dance to navigate in the labyrinth. Theseus succeeds to kill the Minotaur and follows the golden wire to escape the labyrinth, into the clear summer night. Ariadne and Theseus dance together until sunrise. Then, Ariadne feels asleep and Theseus abandons her to return to Athens.
