This video demonstrates how a kindergarten class reads AND comprehends what they've read. What curriculum makes this possible? It's called "The Writing Road to Reading©," an integrated, multisensory, research-based, language arts curriculum that uses the principles of instruction in The Spalding Method®. This curriculum closely correlates with and often exceeds the Common Core English Language Arts Standards. Training in "The Writing Road to Reading" curriculum is offered exclusively through Spalding Education International (SEI). Whatever their socio-economic group, ethnicity or native language (even those at Title 1 schools or those in ESL/ELL programs), this curriculum can help all students learn how to spell, write and read in kindergarten when taught The Spalding Method. Plus, a four-year research study by Arizona State University shows it helps students achieve significantly higher achievement test scores when compared to those using other reading programs. SEI's mission is to increase literacy for all children and adults by using The Spalding Method to develop skilled readers, critical listeners, and accomplished writers and spellers. The late Romalda B. Spalding, author of "The Writing Road to Reading," founded the organization in 1986. Now in its 6th revised edition, "The Writing Road to Reading" has stood the test of time because IT WORKS. "The Writing Road to Reading" helps students develop essential critical thinking skills and instills a love of learning and reading that will last a lifetime. Instead of starting with minimal vocabulary basal readers, first, second and third grade students are able to read such books as Where the Wild Things Are, The Velveteen Rabbit and Charlotte's Web, respectively. How can you achieve success with The Spalding Method? Simple. Success is achieved by those who invest in the authorized curriculum (including "The Writing Road to Reading" and Spalding's Teacher's Guides) AND commit to learning how to teach the curriculum with fidelity by enrolling in Spalding's Writing Road to Reading courses (http://www.spalding.org/index.php?tna....
