It is the capital of the Upper Palatinate sub region of the state. With more than 150,000 inhabitants, Regensburg is the fourth-largest city in the State of Bavaria after Munich, Nuremberg and Augsburg and the 8th largest of all cities on the Danube river. From its foundation as an imperial Roman river fort, the city has been the political, economic and cultural centre of the surrounding region. Later, under the rule of the Holy Roman Empire, it housed the Perpetual Diet of Regensburg. ---- Lübeck (Low German: Lübęk or Lübeek Italian: Lubecca), officially the Hanseatic City of Lübeck is a city in Northern Germany. With around 220,000 inhabitants, it is the second-largest city on the German Baltic coast and the second-largest city in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, after its capital of Kiel. It is the 36th-largest city in Germany. Lübeck's historic old town, located on a densely built-up island, is Germany's most extensive UNESCO World Heritage Site. With six church towers surpassing 100 metres (330 ft), Lübeck is the city with the highest number of tall church towers worldwide.[note 1] Nicknamed the "City of the Seven Towers" (Stadt der Sieben Türme), Lübeck's skyline is dominated by the seven towers of its five Protestant main churches: St Mary's, Lübeck Cathedral, St James', St Peter's, and St Giles's. The cathedral from 1173–1341 was the first large brickwork church in the Baltic region. It is the second-tallest church with two main towers after Cologne Cathedral (which only surpassed it in 1880), has the tallest brick vault, and is the second-tallest brickwork structure after St. Martin's Church in Landshut. ---- Brønderslev is a city in Denmark with a population of 12,842 (1 January 2024). The city is the largest urban area in Brønderslev Municipality and is the municipal seat. It is the fourth largest city of Vendsyssel within the North Jutland Region. Vester Brønderslev was once a small farming village. In 1682, it consisted of just 27 farms and 47 houses. The town was not initially located on any major thoroughfares and saw very little traffic. Thus, the town grew comparatively gradually. By the 1850s, however, an inn and an established market had begun to draw more traders to settle on the road near the city. In 1871, the Vendsyssel railway line opened which connected Brønderslev to Aalborg and Hjørring. The station was located in the old part of town and revitalized development in that area. By the 1880s, Brønderslev had its own post office, hospital, technical school, trade school, library, banks, pharmacy, and a daily newspaper.[7] In 1921, Brønderslev was officially designated as a Købstad (English: market town).
