Nancy Guthrie has been missing from her Tucson, Arizona home for more than 19 days, as investigators continue an expansive search effort and say they have not given up hope that she may still be found alive. New clues, unanswered questions and critical evidence — don’t miss Part 2 of our special investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie in the video player below. Since her disappearance, the case has grown increasingly complex. Authorities have confirmed reported ransom communications demanding millions of dollars, while multiple local and federal agencies remain actively involved in the investigation. Guthrie’s children have also issued emotional public appeals, urging whoever may be responsible to allow their mother to return home safely. One of the most significant developments in the case came after federal authorities released surveillance footage from the night Guthrie vanished. The video shows an armed, masked individual approaching her home and tampering with her doorbell camera. Investigators believe the footage could prove critical in determining what happened. Officials describe the individual seen in the video as a man approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, carrying an Ozark Trail backpack purchased from Walmart. Authorities have also noted he may have been wearing a ring at the time. Evidence collected near Guthrie’s home has added new investigative challenges. DNA recovered from gloves found in the area did not match any profiles in the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says investigators are now exploring additional methods, including genetic genealogy testing, to attempt to identify the source of the DNA. Google is also assisting authorities in an effort to recover additional surveillance footage from inside Guthrie’s home, despite the fact that she did not have an active subscription for expanded storage services. Sheriff Chris Nanos has acknowledged that retrieving more footage may be difficult but said investigators are pursuing every available option. Earlier in the investigation, law enforcement detained a person of interest for questioning but later released that individual without charges. Days later, a large-scale operation involving SWAT officers and forensic teams was conducted roughly two miles from Guthrie’s residence. Authorities have not disclosed what, if anything, was recovered during that operation, stating only that it was part of active investigative efforts. The FBI remains closely involved, working alongside local authorities to process thousands of tips from the public. Search efforts have included aerial support, advanced signal detection equipment designed to locate transmissions from Guthrie’s pacemaker, and coordinated ground searches in surrounding areas. A $100,000 federal reward is now being offered for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance. In addition to the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and Border Patrol search-and-rescue units have supported aspects of the investigation. Federal officials have confirmed that Mexican authorities were contacted as a precaution, although Sheriff Nanos has publicly stated that investigators do not believe Guthrie was taken across the border. President Donald Trump has addressed the case on multiple occasions, saying he would support severe federal penalties if those responsible are identified and Guthrie is harmed. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the president reacted to the surveillance footage with “pure disgust” and encouraged anyone with information to contact authorities. Attorney General Pam Bondi has also described the case as “heartbreaking,” emphasizing ongoing coordination between federal and local agencies. Local officials have pushed back against suggestions of conflict between agencies, stating that cooperation remains strong and that no evidence is being withheld. Authorities have also formally cleared Guthrie’s family members, including her daughter, Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, as suspects in the case. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have released multiple public pleas, asking for their mother’s safe return and urging anyone with information to come forward. A “Bring Her Home” banner remains displayed in Tucson as investigators continue reviewing neighborhood surveillance and doorbell camera footage for additional leads. Authorities say heightened public awareness can be crucial in cases of this scale, and they continue to encourage anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance to contact the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit information at tips.fbi.gov. The investigation remains ongoing. For more news from the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles and Eastern New Mexico, visit www.ABC7Amarillo.com.
