Odisha CM launches ‘Shaktishree’ | Bold safety drive for women on college campuses

In a landmark move, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has launched ‘Shaktishree’, a state-wide initiative to ensure the safety and empowerment of women in higher education institutions. The decision comes after the tragic death of a 20-year-old student at Fakir Mohan College, which highlighted the urgent need for campus reforms. Shaktishree will be implemented across 16 state universities and 730 colleges, focusing on self-defence, awareness, and institutional accountability. The initiative includes eight components: Empowerment Cells, a mobile safety app, Code of Conduct, SAFE campaign, CCTV upgrades, Annual Safety Reports, POSH Act training, and a ‘Shakti Swarupini’ network. The CM described the initiative as a transformative step toward building inclusive and secure academic spaces for women.
