Back in 22 March 2023, the Leader of the House chastised PSP NCMP Leong Mun Wai for his retort to the former Speaker while he was participating in an exchange with Minister for Home Affairs and Law, Indranee Rajah. Leong was called back to Parliament to answer for a Facebook post he made while grieving the passing of his mother on 17 March. https://mothership.sg/2023/03/shanmug... In response, the Leader of the House flipped aside her folder, chastised Leong’s actions, and reminded Members of Parliament to conduct their exchanges in a parliamentary manner. Fast forward two years later, when Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng used Cantonese—a Chinese dialect that is not one of the four official languages of the Singapore Parliament—to criticize Leong for his persistent questioning of labor statistics, implying that he was simply being stubborn and refusing to understand, Indranee remained seated, seemingly unfazed, and might have even been smirking.
