As with the Omote Gyaku, this is a foundational technique meant to teach a student basic control of an opponent and locking. Pay close attention to the gripping method that is unique to this tradition of Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu. It is also trained classically from the zagamae (sitting posture). Facing tori in za gamae, come up onto the right foot secure their left lapel with right hand. Receive with kumite in za gamae. Tori will come up onto the right foot with the knee pressed against the inside of the uke’s right knee. As you are coming up, metusbushi to the eyes and bring the right hand over to receive with ura-gyaku. Create the release of the grip while switching legs, now pressing the left leg to the outside of the uke’s right. bring them down with ura-gyaku while placing the left knee onto the point that is “around” benke and below kobura. Pinning them while maintaining the gyaku-te. There are more advanced ways to do this technique, as Manaka Sensei has shown, however this is the basic version.
