Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look and installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller on a 2021 Ford Explorer. Tekonsha is a well-known brand when it comes to brake controllers as well as any tow wire and for good reason. It's a great brand and the Prodigy P3 is just more proof of that. This is a really nice brake controller that has a digital screen that you can see a lot of different things and it's really easy to use. You have your manual override in a nice easy position here and it allows you to really modulate this as necessary. Where other ones, it's really just a small button. This one gives you a little bit more range. That way you have a little bit more control. Having the digital screen means that it's super easy to use. Setting the power is just up and down. You have your X and OK. From your main menu button here you can change to the display, you can change the brake type of your trailer, whether it be electric or hydraulic. And this is gonna work from one to four axles, which is really cool. You can set your boost level, which is gonna be the different styles of trailers you may need. So as I push the different boost settings, you can see we got a horse trailer or a 5th wheel there. Setting it to three means that we have a triple axle, so a nice little visual cue to let you know if you have a small trailer, whatever it may be, you can get that boost set accordingly. What's really nice too is you can have presets set up for different trailers up to five of 'em. So if you have a few different trailers in your fleet, you can have different brake settings set accordingly, and that way you can just hit that button and it's gonna be preset to that trailer. Another pro of having a digital screen means that it's gonna give you any alerts, so if there is any issue with your connection or maybe just the brake controller, it could be a host of things, it's gonna let you know on that screen. That way you don't really have to troubleshoot it yourself. It's gonna allude to whatever it may be. Installation of the brake controller isn't technically that hard to do. If you have a factory tow package, you can actually get an adapter for that to be able to just plug and play, but if you don't, you are gonna need to have 4-pole wiring as well as an ETBC7 kit, which is gonna give you your 7-pole and also run power up to the engine bay to get 12 volt power, not only to the plug but also to the brake controller. And it's not really that hard to do. Ford is just a little bit tight under the dash, so tying into wires and running them through the grommet was a little bit tricky. But other than that, the connections are super easy and once you have it done, it's gonna be nice and clean and you're gonna have a working brake controller. So as far as that installation goes, I'll walk you through all the steps to make sure you get installed. So let's take a look at that. Now to begin our installation, you first need to make sure that you have 4-pole wiring already done on your vehicle. Now this is a non tow package Explorer that we're dealing with and we're gonna have this bracket that comes with the ETBC7 kit and I also picked up a long bracket and that's gonna go up to the hitch and tighten down using a large hose clamp. Now from there I did fabricate, I have brackets that I made just to kind of sit better at the bumper and then I flattened out the bracket to get this in a nice position. You can fabricate yours up, you could cut through the plastic here to make it work. Just make sure that you're not cutting. There's a cable here for your kick panel to open up your hatch. You wanna make sure you don't damage that. Once you have your bracket mounted up though, we'll take our 7-pole end and we're gonna just feed this through. And then with the included hardware, we'll get this tightened down. So we'll just take the screws off and pass this through. And then on
