Camino de Santiago // Day 22 The first day of proper walking since we fell ill to an unknown bug picked up from a suspected water fountain between Burgos and León. Fortunately we reunited with our Australian friends, Emily and Courtney. We only managed to walk about 10km as we weren't feeling 100% and neither was Emily. That was fine though as we wound up having a wonderful experience at an albergue in Bercianos del Real Camino. Once again, a donativo albergue, but we are beginning to realise that these are where the magic happens. When the expectations are low, surprises are invited in. We find that when you go to an albergue which is run solely for profit, there is a little bit of a coldness to it. And sadly, there are a few business people who have quite literally bought up properties along the Camino route and employed other people to run it without having ever completed their own Camino. I guess with the reviews online, the good will out the bad and only the truely special albergues will survive. We ended the evening with a beautiful shared pilgrim's meal and a remix sing-song of "La Bamba". It was quite hilarious! We were then treated to one of the most beautiful sunsets before retiring to our beds in this 400-year old building.
