Platforms used: -AR-15 18" Proof Carbon barrel in 223 Wylde: Ammo Wolf 55gr steel -Accuracy International 6mm Creedmoor 18.5" barrel: Lapua SRP brass, 38gr Varget, 87 Vmax -Defiance Custom 22 Creedmoor 20" Preferred Carbon barrel: Alpha brass, 38gr Varget, 75 ELD Suppressors compared: -Combat Applications Technology (CAT) JL in .308 -Diligent Defense Enticer LTi w/ 5.56mm/6mm endcap -AB Raptor 10 in 5.56mm w/ a 5" reflex This isn't an apples to apples comparison, in that I'm not using any .30 cal platforms which is how the CAT JL Pewscience review holds the top spot currently as of 5/9/24 in suppression rating. The reality, is 30 cal platforms are ballistically inferior for long range competition and I don't hunt very large game thus, I have no need for 30 cal. The general observations I made, are the CAT JL seems to have a deeper tone, and shorter sound phase (not a prolonged hiss sound of venting gas). On the 6mm creedmoor it appears the CAT JL is slightly quieter at the ear (please note I fired far more shots than recorded on video) than the Enticer LTi. However, on an AR-15 in 5.56mm and 22 creedmoor bolt platforms, it appears the CAT JL is NOT the quietest... there is a notable sonic crack that is slightly louder than the Enticer LTi. The AB Raptor 10 in 5.56mm is the most impressive of the 3 on 22 creedmoor and would likely perform quite well on all centerfire bolt guns in .22 calibers including 22-250. I contacted AB whom does say that the 5.56mm raptor 10 CAN accommodate a 6mm cartridge as the baffles are bored for this; but, you must confirm yourself the concentricity of your barrel bore and use an alignment rod to check. The CAT JL has a disadvantage in that there is NOT a front end cap to change out to a smaller caliber. Large companies such as Dead Air, Diligent defense, Silencerco, AB all have objective data stating that smaller bore end caps on a smaller cartridge, DO reduce the sound by 1-3 decibels which is quite a lot. The other point the "actually" people will make is that a dedicated bored suppressor for specific cartridges will provide the best sound reduction. Yes and NO.... please review the thunder beast silencer summit results and you will see the larger suppressors known to perform well in .30 cal happen to perform well in 5.56mm AR platforms too, and in fact do a better job suppressing 5.56mm than dedicated 5.56mm suppressors, per their published data.... and the subjective opinions of many. An important thing to note on the sound files I recorded, are that I'm shooting in a canyon setting.... if you were to shoot in an open range or forest, the sound would likely be quieter than heard on this video w/ less super sonic sound trailing off which you can hear on the farther shots. Your setting you choose to shoot in greatly changes the sound profile, imagine shooting in a CAVE vs. a wide open field without any hills.
