So you love that Steve Vai dual modulated delay sound from Passion and Warefare? Well then, you'll probably be buying a Roland SDE-3000, SDE-2500, SDE-1000 or DEP-5. All these amazing classic and beautiful sounding rack delays and effects have one other AWESOME thing in common: They all use Vacuum Florescent Displays. If you are buying these from eBay - chances are you're buying the unit from a studio or store in Japan. But Japan has a mains voltage of only 100V at 50Hz (or 60Hz in some areas). USA uses 117VAC (120VAC) mains voltage. The units will work on 120VAC, but you risk wearing out your transformer and the vacuum digital display. In this video, I show you quickly where you need to swap two wires on the input side of the transformer to make sure you set the unit to be properly configured for USA's 117(120)Vac mains voltage. You need a decent soldering iron, but it's actually really easy. WARNING: I am a professional electronics engineer with a background as a service technician. If you don't know how to do this kind of thing safely, don't do it yourself - take it to your local service shop. Having said the disclaimer, watch on - it's actually super simple.
