Escaping the Chicago cold for sunshine for just 24 hours was challenging but worth it! This stay at the Hilton Downtown Tampa was the perfect home base--comfortable, and ideally situated for exploring the city. One of the biggest surprises was Che Vita, the hotel's Southern Italian restaurant. From handmade pasta to incredible pizza, it was absolutely not your typical hotel dining experience--so good it was a highlight of the trip. I explored some of Tampa's most vibrant neighborhoods, starting with Sparkman Wharf for food, and lively vibes. Then Ybor city, rich in history, culture, character and apparently chickens! From there I walked along the Tampa Riverwalk, soaking in waterfront views and city energy and a new band that was trying to bring some fun to the area. I also walked the stunning University of Tampa campus, whose iconic minarets feel straight out of Europe. The 24 hours wrapped up at Armature Works, a must-visit food hall filled with local flavors, creative eats and a great atmosphere. Tampa delivered sunshine, walkability, and so many unexpected gems--proof that this city is a perfect weather escape!
