Day 24 André Brunet - Mauricie, QC Né en 1976 à Lacolle en Montérégie, André Brunet est dès son jeune âge attiré par la musique. Ses parents ayant remarqué cette vive attraction ont tôt fait d'encourager André à développer cette passion pour la musique. Dès lors, le violon devient l’instrument de son grand talent à l’âge de neuf ans. C'est avec son frère Réjean qu’il débute sa carrière en formant le groupe Les Frères Brunet, avec lequel il enregistre plusieurs albums et se présente en concert devant de nombreuses foules un peu partout dans le monde. En 1997, son style à la fois énergique et raffiné lui vaut une place au sein du célèbre groupe La Bottine Souriante avec lequel il jouera dans plus de 15 pays en 10 ans. Son aventure s’est poursuivi avec ses anciens collègues de La Bottine Souriante, Pierre-Luc Dupuis et Éric Beaudry en formant le trio De Temps Antan en 2014. Depuis, il continue son ascension dans le monde musical et sa musique l’a guidé vers d’autres horizons. En décembre 2017, André joint les rangs du célèbre groupe Le Vent du Nord. Un retour au source puisqu’il rejoint son frère Réjean dans la formation fondée en 2002 par Nicolas Boulerice, Olivier Demers et Simon Beaudry; et qui maintenant parcours le monde en formule quintette. C’est d’ailleurs dans cette même année qu’il a enregistré son premier opus en carrière: La grosse maison rouge. Un album qui met de l’avant son grands talents tant au violon qu’à la podorythmie en passant par la guitare et le piano. Plusieurs musiciens avec qui il a joué au cours de sa carrière l’accompagneront sur ce disque dont sa conjointe Evelyne Gélinas (Galant, tu perds ton temps, Les Langues Fourchues) à la flûte, harmonica et au chant. Porteur de la musicalité et du savoir de la musique traditionnelle québécoise, il a pu faire la démonstration de cet héritage partout sur le globe au sein du groupe Celtic Fiddle Festival de 2004 à 2015 aux côtés des grands violoneux Kevin Burke (Irlande) et Christian Lemaître (Bretagne) ainsi que le guitariste de renom, Nicolas Quemener (Bretagne). En 2008, il crée un camp musical avec Éric Beaudry et Stéphanie Lépine, le Camp de Violon Traditionnel Québécois de Lanaudière. Ce camp est consacré à l’apprentissage et au perfectionnement du répertoire pour violon en musique traditionnelle québécoise. ANDRÉ BRUNET was born and raised in Lacolle in Québec’s Montérégie region. He was first drawn to music at a very young age. It was his parents who first noticed his keen interest in music and encouraged him to follow his passion. André’s first love was for the violin and, at the age of nine, he began taking lessons. Along with his brother Réjean, he created Les Frères Brunet and went on to record several albums and perform at various concerts around the world. In 1997, André’s unwavering energy and refined style earned him a spot with the famous band La Bottine Souriante with whom he toured more than 15 countries over the course of 10 years. Although his journey with La Bottine Souriante came to an end in 2006, his adventure has continued with his former colleagues from La Bottine Souriante, Pierre-Luc Dupuis and Éric Beaudry, forming the power trio De Temps Antan in 2014. And now, since December 2017, his talent has led him with the band Le Vent du Nord. It's a great destiny as he plays again alongside his brother Réjean and his new partners Olivier Demers, Nicolas Boulerice and Simon Beaudry. The same year he recorded his first career opus called "La grosse maison rouge". An album that puts forward his great talents both on the fiddle, foot rhythm, guitar and piano. Several musicians with whom he has played during his career accompany him on this album including his wife Evelyne Gélinas (Galant, tu perds ton temps, Les Langues Fourchues) on flute, harmonica and vocals. Bearer of musicality and knowledge of traditional Québec music, from 2004 to 2015, Andre was fortunate and honoured to showcase his creative talents across the globe within the group Celtic Fiddle Festival alongside the great fiddlers Kevin Burke (Ireland), Christian Lemaître (Brittany) and the renowned guitarist, Nicolas Quemener (Brittany). It is impossible to not get drawn right in when you experience him playing live. He has a feel and groove to his playing that is unique to him and I can be (and have been, on numerous occasions) reduced to tears listening to him play reels. His footwork and timing is impeccable and I am so happy that he agreed to take part in this year’s advent calendar.
