Dr. Barnhart is a renowned archaeologist and explorer. He is one of the world’s leading experts on ancient astronomy, mathematics, and calendar systems, specializing on the ancient and lost civilizations of the Americas. He found the ancient Mayan city of Ma'ax Na when he was 25 in Belieze, and was the director of the Palenque Mapping project which resulted in what is widely called the most comprehensive map of any ancient Mayan City. He is the Director of the Maya Exploration Center, host of the ArchaeoEd podcast, and has several lecture series with the Great Courses, with the newest to arrive in 2025.
