I decided to go trail riding on my Mongoose Dolomite ALX fat bike today. Two days ago we were in the midst of a genuine deep freeze in Maine. It got down to -15 degrees Fahrenheit at my house. But today when I went riding it was 40 degrees. The thing is, the snow on the trails had warmed up too. The snow was soft and punky, what we call rotten snow up here. It was like trying to pedal through peanut butter, and I kept sinking through and getting hung up. I'm not bothered by hard work, but I didn't want to put a foot down, trip over a buried log, and break my leg. So, I eventually called it a day and turned around. It was not my best ride ever, for certain. But on the up side, I did get outside on a bike for a half an hour on a sunny day.
