In this video you see a ranking from the worst to the best result of all German Eurovision entries. The ranking is based on both placements and amount of points. Germany is the only country to have competed every year, except for their entry in 1996 that didn’t qualify. That led to the creation of the big four (later big five), which means that Germany is automatically in the final. Ever since the beginning Germany has sent memorable entries, but it wasn’t until the 70s they got appreciated. In 1982 after a decade of many high positions West Germany finally won. Like with many other western countries Germany failed in the 2000s. Despite a second victory in 2010, Germany ended up in the bottom two ⅞ years between 2015 and 2023. Germany hasn’t sung in German since 2007, but they have still experimented with many different genres throughout the years: jazz, swing, country, blues, heavy metal and rap.
