best city to live in Germany

Second largest city in Germany and as big as New York. But Hamburg is often regarded as a mostly rainy and gloomy city. And yet people love this city more then Berlin but why? To be honest it took me 3 visits and some more convincing to really see the city for what it is. I think it is very beautiful especially considering it suffered a lot during the world war 2.
