GUIMARÃES - Igreja da Misericordia

Despite having only been inaugurated in 1606, construction of the Misericórdia Church began in 1588. A year after its inauguration, in 1607, reconstruction work began on the facade that would last until 1640. With a longitudinal plan and a Mannerist facade, the church has two medallions on the front framed by two columns and a glass niche with the sculpture of Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia. Inside, with a single nave and rectangular main chapel, and a barrel-vaulted roof covered in stucco, the main altarpiece stands out, dating from the end of the XVIII century, the pulpits from 1781 and the Iberian organ case. From the collection, two large paintings stand out: one on canvas, representing Our Lady of Mercy, and another on wood, dated 1616, representing the Visitation.
