Yes there was a viral video – and it’s bad, but instead of being a symbol of what is happening daily, it was closer to an isolated incident being used on a national level. 2. The edge at Lowry. According to an NPR radio story on September 6th broke a story that included a press conference by tenants showing major issues with the property, that lead to a multitude of issues. 3. Direct Quote from the Aurora Mayor “I’m not dismissing the concerns at all, but whatever happened initially happened.” What I can tell you now, is that gangs are not in control of either complex,” a. There is so much to unpack here b. He goes on to explain i. Originally he did think the Venezuelan gang had taken control of complex and was taking rent from tenants ii. Instead he says the property managers had vanished and tenants were not paying anybody iii. Says both complexes were facing maintenance issues and a lack of management – he offered them two full time officers for the next two weeks should they return and gain control of the complexes iv. It is a sanctuary city, and crammed residents into apartment buildings c. Prior to this video surfacing there were issues with the buildings maintenance i. Apparently in August – aurora officials obtained a court order to condemn the buildings – which would force residents out. ii. The property management company claimed it could not maintain the buildings because of gang activity Probably the most horrific thing was a nine page report issued by The Perkins Coie law firm – who issued this report to the city of Aurora August 9th – long before this issue became political Now this firm – represents the lender for Whispering Pines Apartments – guess what – someone is not making their payments!! Investigators actually interviewed the property manger who had 15 years of experience 1. Said he had never seen anything like it 2. In November 2023 – one of property management employees beaten and had to go to hospital 3. In April of 2024 2 individuals were arrested as they were coming to kill the property manager who had informed them that they were past due on rent 4. In June the report says that the property management company was approached and told they had to pay 50% of collected rents to them or there would be trouble 5. They attacked the housekeeper to get keys to vacant units a. Started doing their own move ins. As if the story could not get any crazier Rumors all over social media were that the Hells Angels were headed to Colorado to take back the apartments 1. Hells Angels released a statement sent to Channel 9 News and posted on Instagram – said Hells Angels Motorcycle Club denies the “foundation and validity of these absolutely ridiculous and false claims” the state also says the club does not get involved in political issues outside of motorcycling and does not take a stance on immigration or the presidential election. 2. Crazy when I researched this that the Hells Angels had the best most well thought out response. I wish I knew if that was a real person or AI who wrote that – whatever the case – its brilliant!! This is what you call a class C property – that fell into further dis-repair with out of state owners. I was wondering all along – how do you even get to this point with utilities etc. We can’t even turn on power without an actual Lease, etc. – Like I mean it’s hard to do sometimes. Finally I found it reported in The Colorado Sun Trash pickup, and common utilities were turned off – so residents were having to do themselves. Aurora City council member Danielle Dorensky got a lot of play when she personally helped someone move out. Police said no less than 3 or 4 officers could respond to calls at those complexes Have had to form a task force to put the puzzle together on how to fix this. Colorados third largest city, but just under 400K people – it’s like Tri-Cities. Need to get ahead of this – housing issues.
