Wood Nettle is a commonly harvested plant in early spring for its delicious young greens but not many people know that its seeds are also edible! Wood Nettle produces its seeds after flowering and they are easily found if you look at the right time of year. Usually from around the middle of September to the middle of October you can find the seeds of this plant. The seeds, although small, are packed with flavor and nutrition, making them an excellent trail nibble. You can also use them is breads, salads, salad dressings, cakes, muffins, and anything else you would use other seeds in. To collect the Wood Nettle seeds, you simply look for the ripened ones, these are black in color, and pick them off the top of the plant. If you find a good area you can collect hundreds of these seeds in a matter of minutes, making them an easy and abundant resource for us foragers.
