Howard Cairns Quintet - Pimp the bass Buy this Track on iTunes: http://tinyurl.com/btrlvvj Facebook: / howard.cairns This is really a re-write over the simple country form found in "My Buckets got a Hole in it", with a bridge, and a tag. Its real intention is in what it gives us ..ie something to play over toward the end of a gig! Live , everybody gets a solo , we wrap it up ensembly in a New Orleansy manner and as such , it serves as a good bit of usefull fun.. This is the final track of the "Newell Waltz" on the Jazzhead label. ********************************** Album recording notes "Compression" on iTunes: http://tinyurl.com/d7wpjnq Howard Cairns - Double Bass Michael Jordan - Drums Eugene Ball (on the album) - Pocket Trumpet .. the one given to him by Kieth Hounslow Steve Grant (on the video) - cornet Donny Stewart - Trombone Adam Simmons - Tenor Saxophone Recording Engineer - Myles Mumford Recorded live at Melbourne's iconic Kelvin Club on Friday 27th Jan 2012 No headphones No baffles No drop-ins No overdubbing No listening back The CD was recorded cheaply with help from Vic Arts. The tunes were fairly well prepared prior to the actual session - we had one full rehearsal and smaller ensemble rehearsals - and on the day we kept tweaking things. I hadnt figured on getting through as much as we did. I had budgeted for two days of recording but we managed everything that day in 7 hours. We didnt listen back to anything just kept moving on to the next tune. We did all the quintet tracks first , then moved on to the trio track with Trombone , Drums and Bass and then lastly, as Mike packed up, Adam and I recorded Slowly Disappearing in an exhausted daze. I was amazed we had done it all. ************************* Video recording notes filmed on 26/7/12 LIVE at the Kelvin Club by Leo Dale - http://thirdeyevideos.com The edits seen here on Youtube are practically without exception , just how the material was recorded . We are in the same room in the same positions with the exception that the 3 horns were facing more into the rhythm section for the recording. I used less amp, and we played a bit quieter on the recording.
