in this video i am going to tell about stoneman murders in india. The Stoneman murders refer to a series of brutal killings that took place in India during the 1980s, primarily in two cities—Mumbai (then Bombay) and Kolkata (then Calcutta). These murders gained notoriety due to their mysterious nature, as the killer or killers were never conclusively identified or caught. The name “Stoneman” was coined by the media because the unknown assailant used heavy stones or concrete slabs to crush the heads of sleeping pavement dwellers, often killing them instantly. The first known series of murders occurred in Mumbai in 1985. Over the course of six months, at least 12 people were killed in a similar manner. The victims were mostly homeless individuals sleeping alone in dimly lit or secluded areas. Despite police efforts and widespread fear among the public, no solid leads or arrests were made. The killings abruptly stopped, leaving the case unsolved. A few years later, between 1989 and 1990, a similar string of murders occurred in Kolkata. At least 13 people were killed under circumstances strikingly similar to the Mumbai murders. Again, the victims were mostly poor, homeless individuals sleeping in public spaces. The attacker, presumed to be male, struck during the night using a heavy stone to bludgeon the heads of victims, often ensuring instant death. Like the Mumbai case, the Kolkata murders stirred panic and media attention, and again, no suspect was definitively identified or convicted. These cases are particularly chilling because of the pattern, randomness, and the vulnerability of the victims. The police were criticized for their inability to solve the crimes, and the cases exposed the systemic neglect of the urban homeless population in India. Over time, the legend of the Stoneman took on a near-mythical quality, blending fear, speculation, and urban folklore. Several theories were proposed, ranging from a serial killer to a copycat or even a vigilante targeting certain types of victims. However, due to the lack of forensic technology and surveillance at the time, investigators were unable to gather enough evidence. The Stoneman murders remain one of India’s most baffling unsolved crime sprees. They have since been referenced in books, documentaries, and even inspired the 2009 Bollywood film The Stoneman Murders, which fictionalized the events while exploring the psyche of a possible killer.
