BHU Students Protest Muslim Sanskrit Teacher

For almost two weeks, students at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have been protesting against the appointment of their new sanskrit teacher. You may think that maybe he was bad at teaching Sanskrit which is why the students decided to protest. Well, no. The students did not attend a single lecture of the new teacher and are protesting that he be removed. Do you want to know why they are protesting? The students and other teachers are protesting because the new teacher is Muslim. The new Sanskrit teacher’s name is Dr. Firoz Khan Dr Khan is a PH.d in Sanskrit, was appointed as the teacher on November 7. He was appointed after following all the rules. The students protested, by performing pujas outside the residence of Vice-Chancellor house. Protestors say that they want Dr Khan to be transferred to a different department. Only Hindu teachers must be allowed to teach Sanskrit.They the university did nothing wrong by selecting Dr Firoz. He can teach any subject but not Sanskrit. The students and teachers said they stop their Dharna only after Dr Firoz is transferred. Dr Khan told started learning Sanskrit from class 2. He has a BA, B.Ed, MA, and Ph.D in Sanskrit from the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Jaipur. He was awarded the Sanskrit Yuva Pratibha Puruskar by the Rajasthan government. He said that teaching Sanskrit has nothing to do with religion. BHU said that "The university does not stand for discrimination on the basis of religion, caste or gender. For the progress of the nation, it believes in providing equal opportunities of education to all."
