The Tecsun PL-310ET AM FM LW Shortwave receiver is my recommendation for those looking for a portable radio that is inexpensive, has decent reception performance and uses standard AAs. This radio has been on my desk since I purchased it many years ago and remains there for daily use. Cruising the Daytime Medium Wave Band (AM in the States), is a treat. The bandwidth control shines along with the use of a great passive loop and viewing the radio's signal/noise ratio function. Is the PL-310ET still a viable shortwave radio? Yes.
