The Amazon jungle is one of the best attractions in Ecuador, and one of the best places to visit it is the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. We booked a lodge and made the 7 hour trek from Quito, including a 2 hour boat ride down one of the Amazon's many rivers. It was rustic, it was secluded, it was awesome. We stayed at the Guacamayo Lodge. There are many options when it comes to lodges in Cuyabeno. The prices range from $250-500 for a 3 day adventure. We ended up paying $280 for a 4 day tour. The lodge takes care of everything - you just have to get to Lago Agrio (aka Nueva Loja). On our trip we saw pink river dolphins, sloths, all kinds of monkeys, giant river otters, a tree boa snake, caiman, piranha, and all kinds of beautiful birds including macaws, toucans, oropendolas, and the stinky turkey. We swam in the beautiful lake, we hiked the jungle at night and day, we canoed to primary forest, and more.
