As human beings we are blessed with a brain that has the ability to learn and reason. We thought that talking to experts, rather than getting polarised on whether alcohol is good or bad, was the best way to create awareness about meads. The age old drink that has been made and consumed in almost all the cultures around the world has had a strong presence in ancient Indian medicine AKA Ayurved. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this episode of MWMG we talk to Dr. Swati Gadgil and Dr. Poonam Gupte about the role of alcohol, in general, and mead specifically, has in Ayurved. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Swati Gadgil is currently working as an associate professor in the department of Rasa Shastra Bhaishajya Kalpana that means Ayurveda pharmacology, In College of Ayurveda Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune University, Maharashtra. She has completed her BAMS and MD in Rasa Shastra from Pune University. She is the recipient of national Best PhD Ayurveda thesis award, and has won first prize in the third national conference on Update in Ayurveda, held in 2021. She is a disciple of Vaidya M. V. Kolhatkar lineage and she is also working as an honorary professor in one of his Prestigious projects. Her research interests are very unique. Right now she’s working on the areas that are related to Cognition, Neuropsychology, Hydro alcoholic preparations, Siddhaghruta dietetics, Nutraceutics. She has authored more than 15 research papers and contributed a chapter in the book titled “Nutraceuticals for Ageing and Anti-aging” which is published by ‘Taylor and Francis Group CRC press, London and New York’. She is Co-investigator in other prestigiously funded projects as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Poonam Gupte is currently affiliated to the department of “Obesity diabetics at interactive research school for health affairs” at Bharati Vidyapeeth Pune. It is an independent research unit in the university. She has completed her basic education in Ayurveda and holds a postgraduate degree in Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana that meads Ayurveda pharmacology. She started her career in research as a clinical research coordinator. And has an extensive experience of more than eight years in conducting clinical trials, scientific writing, and documentation. More than 10 research papers and peer reviewed index journals stand to her credit. She has presented research papers in various national conferences as well as delivered talks for students pertaining to clinical research. Clinical research is a very important area of research because all the tall claims that anybody is making about anything that they’re doing those get validated by clinical research. So it’s a very important branch in any kind of research. Apart from research. She also has a passion for clinical practice.
