I go over some of the inherent design flaws of the SW55SS, as well as some of my plans to correct them. The most egregious of these flaws is the way it sinks so quickly after flipping over, resulting in the engine being filled with water. I have a plan to make this boat self-righting with as little damage to the already fragile hull as possible. List of current changes from stock: Widened the clamping gap on all 4 rudder clamps Reduced angle on trim tabs for greater control in choppy water (yes, I know this reduces top speed) Replaced the vacuum powered water pump with two electric 6v diaphragm pumps (One for the head, the other for the exhaust) Added an electric bilge pump with a float switch Repurposed the vacuum powered water pump as a secondary bilge pump for the forward and engine water compartments (not done yet) Added plastic foam to reduce the amount of water that can pool in the bottom of the boat Added plastic foam to the top of the boat to enable self-righting I'm partly through some of these modifications, and am welcoming any feedback you might have in the comments! For an example of how fast this boat sinks, watch this video: • shockwave 55 flip over and sinking It never goes fully under as the bow traps a lot of air, but it's far enough down that the electronics box and engine get absolutely full of water.
