Nestled at the edge of a misty, forgotten forest, The Whispering Shadows Inn stands as a timeless testament to a bygone era. This eerie and enigmatic hotel has long been a subject of fascination and fear, with its dark history and spectral reputation. Scaitcliffe Hall was the home of the Crossley family since medieval times. The south part was re-built in 1666 and the north part in 1738, then it was completely pulled down and re-erected in 1833. It is an attractive Grade 2 listed building in picturesque surroundings. Most recently it was a hotel, restaurant, and popular wedding venue. We think it closed around 2012. There was some fire damage in 2017 and the roof is leaky in parts but it’s not bad considering how long it’s been derelict. The stone shell is probably good for another couple of centuries. Guests have reported strange phenomena during their stays: doors that creak open of their own accord, the soft, melancholic strains of a piano playing in an empty room, and inexplicable cold spots that chill you to the bone. The Inn's resident specters, including the elusive Lady Eleanor and the weeping child, are said to roam the corridors at night. Brave souls who dare to spend a night at Scaitcliffe Hall do so at their own risk, as it is rumored that once you check in, you may never truly check out. It remains a place where the line between the living and the dead blurs, a place where history's secrets continue to haunt, and where the past lingers in every darkened corner.
