How to dismantle, paint and swap Fiat/Abarth door card!

Time to paint the door card. Hard to believe it too us a year to notice it was dark grey not black 🤣 Removing the door card (also known as the interior door panel) on a Fiat 500 of an Abarth is a relatively straightforward process, but it does require some care to avoid damaging the clips or any wiring. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to remove the door card from a Fiat 500: Tools Needed: Trim removal tool (or flathead screwdriver wrapped in tape) Phillips screwdriver T30 Torx screwdriver Small pick tool (for accessing hidden screws) Socket wrench (optional) Steps: 1. *Ensure the car is off and the window is up* Before starting, ensure the car is off and the window is fully up to avoid issues when removing the door panel. 2. *Remove the door handle trim* Start by carefully prying off the trim around the interior door handle using a trim removal tool. Be gentle to avoid damaging the plastic clips that hold it in place. 3. *Remove the screw in the door handle* Behind the door handle, you'll find a screw (likely a Phillips head or Torx). Use the appropriate screwdriver to remove it. 4. *Remove the grab handle screws* Locate the grab handle (the section where you usually pull to close the door). Use the pick tool to remove the small plastic cover or cap that conceals screws inside the grab handle. Remove the screws using the Phillips screwdriver or Torx screwdriver (usually T30 screws). 5. *Pry off the door card* With the screws removed, you can now start prying off the door card itself. Use the trim removal tool and start from the bottom of the door card. Slide the tool between the door panel and the door, and gently pry it away from the door. Work your way around the edges of the panel to pop out the plastic clips. Be gentle as these clips can break if too much force is applied. 6. *Disconnect the wiring* Once the door card is loose, do not pull it off completely. There will be electrical connectors for the window switches, speaker, and possibly a door light. Disconnect these by pressing the tabs on the connectors and pulling them apart. 7. *Lift the door card away* After disconnecting all wiring, you can now fully remove the door card. Lift it upwards and out of place, as it may be resting on a lip near the window. Reinstallation: To reinstall the door card, reverse the steps. Ensure that all clips are lined up properly and that the wiring is reconnected securely before pushing the door panel back into place. This process is relatively simple but requires patience, especially with the plastic clips and electrical connections.
