What's the difference between the Hortilux Platinum Series and the Hortilux Gold Series. For the most part, the differences between the Gold and Platinum are very basic and should be easy to understand. However, there are two major differences between the Gold and Platinum. First, the Platinum provides power to the lamp with a, square wave design. The Gold powers the lamp with a sine wave design. The second main difference is the frequency of the ballast. Platinum operates at a low frequency near 120Hz. The Gold operates with a high frequency near 120 thousand Hz. So which one is better is probably your next question. Well that answer gets a lot more technical. The square wave design provides constant maximum voltage to the lamp for a longer period of time. This produces more photons of light for your plants. The sine wave design provides maximum voltage to the lamp for a shorter period of time. You still get the same amount of photons from the light but maximum voltage is not maintained as long as the square wave design. Yet the Gold is operating at a higher frequency producing power a thousand times faster than the Platinum series. This makes the amount of photons produced between the two almost identical. Square wave technology is more expensive to manufacture than sine wave technology and it offers the most stable power supply to the lamp which will increase the lamps performance.
