I think we can all agree that our country has seen better days. From police brutality, to economic disparity, to government corruption and scandals our country is at a crossroads. In the 2016 election the republican frontrunners are Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, two candidates that have ran on a platform based on inciting fear and disparaging those of a different skin color or religion. While Obama, I believe, has moved our country in the right direction, in order to make good on these difficult issues we need to unite not only the democratic party, but both parties. We need people to understand that being muslim doesn't make you a terrorist, being black doesn't make you a criminal, and being white doesn't make you racist. The only way to do this is to start a dialogue between different groups of people. I know, that as a young white man I am afraid to express my opinion at times for fear of being attacked. I know that many of my black, asian, hispanic, muslim, or homosexual friends often feel the same way. It is high time that we set aside our differences and come to the table ready to try and create mutually acceptable solutions without attacking or disparaging each other. Normally I’m inspired by hip-hop artists such as J. Cole or Drake among others, but with this song, I took inspiration from one of the greatest counter-culture bands of all time, Rise Against the Machine. I’m sure you’ll be able to see their undertones in not only the song, but also the visuals that accompany it. My goal for this video was not to target any one person or one group, but to point out the issues that are facing our country, and how little has been done. Ursula K. Le guin once said “Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone; it has to be made, like bread, remade all the time, made new.” It is high time we remade the foundation of love, freedom, and liberty that this country was built on.
