The 1908 Barnsley Public Hall Disaster by Dave Cherry

In 1908 16 children were killed, and 40 more were injured, in a tragic accident at the Barnsley Public Hall. They had gone to watch an early picture show and were trampled on a staircase that went up to the gallery. The Barnsley documentarian, Dave Cherry, here describes the accident and his film follows the short lives of 5 of the children. Using archive film, the coroner’s report and modern map references it makes a very interesting documentary that questions the hypocrisy of the time.
