"Sleepy Desert" is a traditional folk song often identified as a variant of "Silver Dagger" or "O! Molly Dear Go Ask Your Mother". Recordings date back to the early 1920s; a popular modern interpretation was recorded by the group Uncle Earl. Rayna Gellert, here singing lead vocals and playing fiddle, is a member of Uncle Earl. She is accompanied by the legendary Alice Gerrard. The song was filmed at Glencoe Mill, an old textile mill on the Haw River near Burlington, NC. It's an outtake from a Season 2 episode of the PBS series "David Holt's State of Music."
