Training a deep learning model and using it to detect new individuals on a map is not an easy task. ArcGis facilitates this by offering a very intuitive menu to prepare the training dataset and fit a battery of deep learning models (Step 7). However, this pipeline requires having a licence of ArcGis Pro. To expand the potential of this methodology we present an open-access alternative to this pipeline. Therefore, the aim of this step is to provide an alternative open-access way to do the step 7, prepare training data (with Roboflow), train a deep learning model (Python) and use the trained model to detect individuals on a georeferenced picture (QGIS-DeepNess). This workflow is a bit more slow but it is fully open access and allows the usage of up-to-date deep learning models as well as to adjust manually the model hyperparameters.
