Since I started playing with clay in July 2021 as a hobby potter I've been regularly binge watching YouTube and Instagram as my method of education! In the process I have gained so much knowledge, insight and inspiration from fellow potters around the world, and I hope that I have been able to do the same in return to others on the same journey. I've always been a very chatty person and love interacting with people so lockdowns through Covid were especially challenging for me. With my closest community studios being over an hour's drive away I found myself interacting with the amazing pottery community on socials worldwide and over the last 3 years enjoyed developing 'pottery friendships' virtually. If only it was possible to actually meet some of these amazing potters from around the globe in person, how amazing would that be!... but the reality unfortunately in something that just sits in my dreams and wish-list. However when there is a possibility to make this happen with UK potters I try my hardest to facilitate. Last year I made an 850 mile round trip / 16 hours driving to spend an afternoon with Chris Pellow, from @pellowceramics, that was a fantastic trip, I just wish it was possible more often! This year I suggested to Julia from 'Ceramics by Julia' we meet half way - a 3hour drive for us each. She was completely up for the idea so we set about planning.... The final plan was - Arrive 12noon at a garden centre for lunch, check-in 2pm to an Airbnb, pottery projects all day including taking our own tea to cook in the property so we could have maximum time claying, following morning take a workshop in a local pottery school on surface decoration then make our way home. It was an absolute blast!!! We decided to record our time in the Airbnb, with the idea that you guys could feel as if you were with us. However I had to condense the filming somewhat as this was over 4 hours of clay time condensed into just over an hours footage. There is a lot of laughter, pottery experiments and chatting getting to know a little more about each other. Really hope you find this enjoyable to join us, as much as we did. The footage has been separated into two YouTube videos, each 35 mins approx. Make sure you're subscribed if you want to receive a notification when Part two is released. Thanks as always for your continued support and encouragement, its very much appreciated. If you don't follow Julia already why not pop over to her YouTube and check her out @ceramicsbyjulia8552.
