Legendary Music Producer Tom Dowd talks about introducing Duane Allman to Eric Clapton and forming the historic band " Derek & the Dominos " Allman and Clapton according to Rolling Stone magazine rank among the top 5 guitarists of all time and in the summer of 1970 the two met and joined forces to help further launch Clapton's band called Derek and the Domino's. Other band members include Carl Radle on the Bass, Bobby Whitlock on Organs and back-up vocals and Jim Gordon on the Drums and piano. In this segment of the Language of Music Tom Dowd and Eric Clapton talk about the making of the world famous album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" which features classic hit rock songs such as Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad, Bell Bottom Blues, Little Wing (by Jimi Hendrix) and other tracks but also including the all time Clapton standard and favorite by all aspiring guitarist known as "Layla", a song inspired by the book "Layla and Manjun" ( The Original Romeo & Juliet ) which was the book Patti Boyd Harrison (Wife of George) was reading at the time Eric Clapton fell in love with her. "Layla" is based on Eric's real life love for Patti Boyd, how she was unhappy with George Harrisons' cheating ways and leaving her behind and how Eric (one of George's best friends) came to meet Patti and started spending alot of time with her to the point of begging her to leave George for him!
