First off, Yes, the car is a '66 with a '67 front end. It is equipped with our Pro Touring IFS front clip & Torque Arm rear suspension. Currie 9" housing, Ridetech triple adjustable coilovers, and 13" Wilwood brakes. 670hp stroked LS3 with AFR heads built by HPS Machine under the hood and a Silver Sport T56. American Racing wheels 18x10 front & 18x11 rear. 285/30/18 Bridgestone RE71 front tires and 315/30/18 Yokohama AO52 rear tires. The Wednesday before the first NMCA race of 2021 we had Andy bring his Nova to the shop to scale it. The plan was to have Sal and Andy switch cars so that Sal could spend some time behind the wheel of the Nova. Sal is the master chassis tuner so the hope was to improve the car, and boy did he. Andy's car is one of the lightest cars in our SoCal TCI group so we didn't feel bad about adding 100 lbs of ballast courtesy of Speedway Motors. Carefully positioned behind the passenger seat the car ended up just 60 lbs shy of 50/50 with 225 lbs of Andy in the drivers seat and a half tank of gas. Now that we had moved some weight off the front and onto the rear Sal dropped the front springs from 600's down to 550's. He felt the rear springs were already matched to the extra weight so they were left alone. Sal spent most of the day Saturday making adjustments trying to perfect rear grip for corner exit without giving up grip at corner entry. The car was still pushing at corner exit so he decided to put the 1" front anti-sway bar back on the car. Some time last year we had changed to the 1.125" front bar. Talk about complete transformation, man the car was instantly planted throughout the turn. The car was actually predictable and so much easier to drive. Now if we can just calm down the throttle response at corner exit. Stay tuned for what's next. The car is working really well right now so hopefully the next event we'll gain even more confidence and push the envelope even farther. The adjustments helped propel me to a 3rd place finish in Classic Muscle, rounding out an all TCI equipped podium. background music courtesy of www.purple-planet.com
