I have some fantastic memories of leading this hymn at a variety of services across my life, one of the most vivid being an interfaith Thanksgiving service attended by about 500 who ALL sang this hymn at the top of their lungs and even in harmony with one another without any hymnal or notation. For that moment, nothing else mattered except being unified in prayer, song, and voice. This arrangement won't conjure that scene for you, but it was inspired by imagining a very large ensemble, probably orchestra AND choir, not playing and singing at the tops of their lungs, but playing the warmest mezzo piano dynamic... one that just envelops you with sound and comfort.
