Sacrificial Dance: 30:02 The Rite of Spring is a fantastic piece written by Stravinsky and premiered in late May of 1913. It was composed both as a ballet and as an orchestral work so it makes sense that it has such a programmatic sound to it. Originally critics said that the work as a whole lacked narrative but according to Stravinsky the work represents pagan Russia unified by a single idea: the mystery and great surge of the creative power of Spring.
