The compositional style focuses on complex and highly syncopated rhythmical grooves with a minimalist harmonic style, found in modern-day rock and pop music. In the early stages of the piece (the game), the soloist and the band trade blows, but everything shifts at the Queen Sacrifice with the euphonium taking dominance in the game.
