It was composed by Clarence “Sonny” Henry and first recorded by jazz percussionist Willie Bobo in the late 1960s. But Santana injected it with a swagger and groove that spoke to a wider audience in a way Bobo’s version hadn’t, turning it into that iconic blend of blues bite and Latin pulse.
