Caryatids Nymphic (2018) Concept, Direction, Camera, Costumes, and Choreography: Anahit Saribekyan Music: Daemonia Nymphe – “Χαίρε Νύμφαι, χαίρε Βάκχε (Hymn to Bacchus)” Performers: Svetlana Volkova Xryssa Klysyary Ekaterina Tsaga Filming Location: University of Athens, Academy of Athens, and National Library of Greece — Panepistimiou Street, Athens Country of Production: Greece Abstract The dance composition Caryatids by Anahit Saribekyan embodies the metaphysical resonance between ancient Greek architecture and the divine feminine presence personified by the nymphs. Drawing inspiration from the Hellenic ideal of sacred geometry and movement, the work visualizes the ethereal flow of nymphic energy through monumental structures, reawakening the soul of the pagan world. Filmed in 2018 across the architectural ensemble of Panepistimiou Street — encompassing the University of Athens, the Academy of Athens, and the National Library — the film situates human movement within the architectural continuum of ancient Greek aesthetics. Saribekyan’s Abstract-Monumental choreographic style, distinguished by the fusion of ritualistic symbolism and geometric abstraction, reveals a dialogue between the corporeal and the architectural. Each gesture resonates as an echo of the Caryatids themselves — living columns that uphold both structure and spirit. The composition is accompanied by Daemonia Nymphe’s “Χαίρε Νύμφαι, χαίρε Βάκχε (Hymn to Bacchus),” an invocation to Dionysian ecstasy and divine unity, enhancing the ritual atmosphere and mythopoetic essence of the performance. Lyrics Translation (from Ancient Greek) Χαίρε Νύμφαι, χαίρε Βάκχε (Hymn to Bacchus) Hail, Nymphs! Hail, Bacchus! Child of Semele, giver of joy, Born in fire, crowned with ivy, You wander through mountains and forests, Surrounded by Nymphs who sing your name. You awaken the sacred madness, You bring the dance of divine frenzy, Through your rhythm flows the wine of life, And the earth rejoices beneath your step. Hail, Nymphs! Hail, Bacchus! Eternal spirit of liberation and light. Performances, floor shows, classes, workshops, lecture-demonstrations. Anahit.org / caryatids
