What's my affiliation to YLL? -I work part-time for a vape retailer doing bulb swaps/repairs on the Wooden OG (50W) Angus. -Our early support for the Angus 50W earned YLL's trust in supplying us parts to do said work. -I formed a friendship with Mike (CEO of YLL) over several years of working on his vapes. -I was given the opportunity to beta test a few of their products, and offer feedback, some of which was implemented, some not. -Other than the above, I am NOT affiliated with YLL in any official or financial capacity, and I stand to make no money from their sales. The only money I make from the Angus is paid to me by the vape retailer when I occasionally replace a lightbulb or repair a temperature sensor. Why do I defend YLL and risk my rep for $0? -Simply put, we're friends, and I believe in the team at YLL. I don't need any more reason than that. -They're an innovator; it would be a major loss to the vape world if they folded as a company. -I hate bullies. Where do I stand on the fiberglass issue? -I was the first person to find and emphatically champion for the removal of said insulation during beta testing in March of 2024. -I was the ONLY beta tester among a group of people to notice this material or say anything about it. -When the issue was rediscovered and people started winding up, I was the first again (that I know) to directly advise that YLL perform an official recall. -However, I am of the opinion that the airpath has always been fully sealed, and it is beyond unlikely that anyone would ever inhale any fibers from the old AE insulation. Verdampftnochmal has independently tested the old AE for presence of fibers in the airpath, and found NONE in the upper chamber, where it is most important. Ultimately, they assert, "it seems unlikely that fibers could reach the lungs, as a screen in the herb chamber, the herbs themselves, the resulting oils, and the upper screen should trap them." Did I run across anything that needs further inquiry in this teardown? -Yes, the casings for the temperature sensor wires are made of a material that seems to be shedding fibers into the body cavity. -YLL have publicly posted to the Fuck Combustion forum and have identified the material as PBO braided rope (Zylon), which can be customized for colour. To cite YLL directly, "We totally get the confusion--the PBO sleeve can look similar to fiberglass, especially in its braided form. But it’s a high-performance composite fiber that offers superior thermal insulation, zero skin irritation, and no fiber shedding. It's a much safer and stronger alternative to fiberglass." [There are obvious problems with the claim that the material doesn't shed; it definitely does.] FC Post: https://fuckcombustion.com/threads/fi... MSDS for PBO: https://www.toyobo-global.com/seihin/... Do I believe these fibers to be a health concern after a more thorough, second teardown? -No. The new airpath/light fixture is fully sealed with gaskets/grommets/pressure that runs the entire length of the vape from the bottom of the air inlet to the top of the oven. It is far more tightly sealed than its predecessor. The only part I could not access directly was inside of the light tube portion of the airpath, as it is pressure fit and would need to be pried apart. To the best of my ability, I could only find fibers in areas that were limited to the external areas of the airpath, which again, IS fully sealed. The only way (imho) that fibers could possibly enter the airpath, is if they were knocked in there during assembly at the factory. But as long as the airpaths are assembled FIRST, and the sensor affixed after, there should be no way that any of these fibers could ever enter the airpath. (I conceit that I cannot know the order that things are assembled in China, and therefore, cannot entirely rule out the possibility that fibers from the casings end up in the airpath during factory assembly. But I could not find any within the accessible parts of the airpath on my replacement unit.) Am I USING my replacement? Absolutely. Who is this Alpha-Karen, superfan, all over Reddit posting about Bing's Buddery? -Look up the contemporary definition of a "sophist". 👌💯 This replacement was sent directly from YLL, but I made no mention of doing a teardown prior to it's arrival. Everybody's replacement should look like this inside and I encourage everyone with the tools and patience to tear theirs down as well. Tools Needed for Teardown: -T6 Torx Driver -Hotair Gun for the decal removal -High-heat soldering iron -Silver-based (lead-free) solder (flux is handy too) -Solder wick (not necessary, very handy) Disclaimer: Everything stated in the video and description is based on my own independent research and opinion.
