The Namibian Police has extended a nationwide crime prevention operation, code-named “Walya Shakakodhi Tala Pombada". The operation was conducted from 30 January to 2 February across all 14 regions and was extended by the police chief, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi reported that the operation resulted in 212 arrests for various offences, including drug-related crimes, stock theft, and unlicensed firearms possession. In addition, illicit goods and suspected stolen property were confiscated, and traffic summons were issued. The regions with the highest criminal activity recorded during the operation were Hardap, Oshana, and |Khomas. In Hardap, arrests were primarily linked to stock theft and unlicensed firearms. Oshana saw a number of cases involving illicit goods and traffic violations, while |Khomas recorded high levels of drug-related offences and traffic law violations. The inspector general also condemned ongoing concerns about internal misconduct by police officers, noting that 13 police officers have been arrested since January 2026 for crimes including drug possession, corruption, extortion, forgery, and violations of the Stock Theft Act. He stated that any member found acting unlawfully will face legal consequences, regardless of their rank or position.
