Don't let your faith blind you: The REAL Reason why "Wellness Culture" is Problematic in Witchcraft This video discusses wellness practices and the culture surrounding it within witchy and "alternative spirituality" spaces. While I do think there are some inherent issues in using such practices IN PLACE OF modern medicine (in contexts where modern medicine is proven to be helpful) I also think that it is possible to incorporate both modern medicine and more "holistic" practices in our lives where applicable. It all depends on the context and individual circumstance. What it really boils down to is simply the question of WHY are we making the health decisions we are making. Is it because we have looked at all the research and our available resources, and come to certain conclusions on our own? Or are our decisions being invisibly influenced by the groups we consider ourselves a part of - be that witches, Christians, or some political party? This conversation is extremely nuanced, and I did not by any means explore this topic to its fullest scientific extent in this particular video. That was not the intention here. The intention for this video is simply to steer the attention away from what is "right" or "wrong" and towards what we feel we need, and who it is we choose to trust. When it comes to very personal decisions such as our health and wellbeing, I believe that everyone should have the right to - at the very least - decide what road they wish to travel. We must also be willing to face the consequences of our actions, be they desirable or not. In most cases, those consequences will pretty much only affect us individually. Then, there are some cases in which our medical decisions may impact others on a much larger scale than we realize. With sovereignty comes responsibility. I believe that while we should have some semblance of bodily autonomy, we also must answer to our communities, our Earth, and our gods the reasons as to why we might choose certain things over another. And if you don't have a good reason for it, or if your reason was simply "well this is what witches do" or "this is what my preferred political party does," then you are not truly living in sovereignty.
