Step into a side of Japan that most tourists never see. In today’s video, I explore Kuroe in Wakayama, a town rich with history and craftsmanship, where tradition and modern life meet in surprising ways. We begin at the Kuroushi Sake Brewery, famous for its award-winning sake, and stroll through the old streets of Kuroe, once a hub for Kishū lacquerware (紀州漆器). Along the way, I’m invited into a traditional shop and offered the rare chance to step inside a Japanese kura (蔵) house—a historic storehouse usually hidden away from view, frozen in time. From there, the day shifts into modern Japan as I stop at Kura Sushi, one of Japan’s most fun conveyor-belt sushi chains, before heading home for a quiet walk with Millie, my cat, to check on the rice fields and explore a new housing estate. This video is all about living between old and new Japan—from timeless traditions to everyday life. ✨ Don’t forget to check out the new summer merch line here 👉 https://chani-japan-shop.fourthwall.com 🌸 Join the Postcard Club & get seasonal postcards directly from Japan 👉 http://ko-fi.com/chanijapan/tiers 🇯🇵Do you want to learn Japanese from the beginning?
